A Bit of Background

Hi, I’m Whitney. Let me guess what you’re thinking, “Whitney, who??” I’ll fill you in a little bit. I know some of you have been around forever, but there are some new people here too. People who are curious just who Whitney is. Well, for my story you’re going to have to wait for the television series, but for now? I’ll describe myself in a few words, a fighter, mother, daughter, sister, best friend, creative, funny, writer, reader, lover of science and the planet, someone who never gives up. I’ve looked in the face of death many times and came out on the other side. I’ve seen the “bright light”, I’ve had the biggest moments of my life pass before my eyes. Those things do actually happen at the end of your life.

I was born with Cystic Fibrosis (CF), a degenerative lung disease. CF almost always ends with lung failure resulting in death or a double lung transplant. I’m lucky enough to have the latter, but only after spending many months in the hospital on life support. That life support killed my kidneys and now I’m in search for a kidney donor. I’ve had so many people try, but my hospital is extremely strict with health standards. I’ve been on dialysis for nearly two years waiting for a kidney that doesn’t seem to exist. I was tired of waiting for something to “fix me” before starting my second chance at life. I’ve decided I’ve waiting long enough - I’m gong for it. I’m traveling, seeing the country, crossing things off my bucket list, and helping others cross things off of theirs. I’ll do it while being on dialysis. Keeping up with doctors appointments, medicines, nebulizers, diabetes, pneumonias. Whatever my body throws at me to slow me down, it won’t work. I’m on this adventure now and there’s no turning back!
